Follett low-profile ice and beverage dispensers are available in
a number of capacities and configurations to meet the needs of virtually
any foodservice cafeteria.
Because cafeterias experience peaks in traffic, through-put
(the maximum number of people able to physically access a single
dispenser each hour) must also be considered when sizing.
How many dispensers are needed?
- Any typical ice and beverage dispenser can accommodate a maximum
of 360 people per hour without bottlenecks. Therefore, divide
the number of hourly peak servings by 360 to determine how many
dispensers will be needed.
- Dual-sided VU300 ice and beverage dispensers can accommodate
up to 720 people per hour.
What capacity dispenser is needed?
Following are guidelines to help you size:
- Ice required per serving will equal the size of average cup
in oz (or ml) x .40. Therefore, someone filling a 16 oz cup would,
on average, use about 7 oz of ice.
- Manual load ice and beverage dispensers have infinite capacity
since they are able to be manually loaded from another ice production
source.
- Each Follett remote icemaker will recover at about 16 lbs (7.3kg)
per hour, assuming that the bin is not full and is signalling
for more ice. Models with two remote icemakers will recover at
32 lbs (14.6kg) per hour.
- Depending on ambient temperatures, integral beverage cooling
can require up to 40% more ice per day than dispensers using a
separate, mechanical cooling system to chill the beverage lines.
Remember, these are guidelines only. Different usage patterns and
other ice uses can affect the size of equipment needed.
