Sustainability Policy

Follett is committed to creating an enduring company that delivers solutions to promote health, safety and well-being.  This commitment can only be achieved with keen attention to sustainability, or “meeting the needs of the present without sacrificing the needs of the future."

Follett makes it a practice to consider the impact of our actions on the environment, market, community, and employees, to identify opportunities and take action where practicable. Follett maintains internal programs that include sustainability for the market, community, and our employees and is pleased to share our environmental programs with you.

Environmental sustainability

Follett will strive to improve the sustainable consumption and production associated with its activities.

  • Recycling programs for metal, packaging, oils and batteries
  • Refrigerant reclaim process
  • Refurbishment process for damaged goods for reuse or resale
  • Vendor reuse programs for packaging
  • Programmable thermostats for facility heating and cooling
  • Kaizen events and lean processing to reduce scrap and reduce costs

Office facilities have the following in place:

  • Recycling programs for paper, plastic, printer cartridges, and computers and associated equipment
  • Kaizen events and lean processing to reduce scrap and reduce costs
  • Flexible office wares to allow for reconfiguration of work space with minimal waste

Follett products provide the following benefits:

  • All applicable ice machines already meet mandatory 2018 DOE energy efficiency requirements
  • Select products are ENERGY STAR® certified
  • All products comply with RoHS
  • Select products comply with the California Energy Rebate program
  • Select products meet CEE Tier 2 for energy efficiency
  • Horizon Elite™ and Maestro Plus™ Chewblet® ice machines use 30% - 60% less water than cube type ice machines
  • Horizon Elite™ saves 35% more water in low TDS applications and consumes 50% less water in high TDS applications than typical cube ice machines
  • Ice Manager™ diverter valve system saves energy by allowing one ice machine to fill two dispense points, eliminating one ice machine from a facility per diverter valve system
  • Symphony Plus ice and water dispensers eliminate the need for bottled water, reducing landfill waste and the energy used to make and transport bottled water.
  • All of our ice machines, ice and water dispensers, undercounter refrigerators and freezers use environmentally-friendly (CFC-free) refrigerants – either R404a or R134a. We are migrating many of our products to lower GWP refrigerants to support sustainable climate initiatives.
